CS 598R Special Projects

CS 598R is a course for both undergraduate and graduate students to conduct an independent project under the direction of a faculty mentor. Normally, a one semester 598R project carries 3 hours of credit, but projects with 1 or 2 credit hours may also be approved. Approximately 50 hours of work per credit hour is expected.

The following scenarios are NOT acceptable 598R projects:

  1. Projects that involve work done as part of or related to a job for which the student is paid (except RA work)
  2. Projects for graduate credit that involve work done as part of or in preparation for a thesis or dissertation

Approval to take CS 598R must be obtained in advance from the graduate coordinator.  An approval form containing instructions is availble from the Graduate Program Assistant. Printable Approval Form

Undergraduate students wishing to participate in CS Department Demo Day with CS 598R credit should speak with secretaries in the CS Office (3361 TMCB) for more information.
